So one or more of your kids needs orthodontic care? Or maybe you think they might need to have their teeth straightened, but you’re not sure. Perhaps you’ve been thinking about when the best time is to begin their treatment or to get them checked out to see if they need orthodontic work.
Let us recommend that you start their orthodontic care now, while they’re out of school. Beginning their care during the summer will give them the opportunity to get used to their orthodontics before they are back in the classroom.
Also, you’ll have more flexibility with scheduling their first few appointments – you won’t have to work around school and extracurricular activities. If you need to make an appointment for your child’s orthodontic care, call us today at (574) 272-6575 and we’ll be glad to help.
We offer teens two great ways to straighten their teeth. Dr. Hurcomb will examine their mouth, give you detailed treatment options, then you and they can decide which treatment will work best for their situation.
Invisalign Uses Clear Teeth Aligners
Teens (and adults, too!) love the Invisalign method of orthodontics. Rather than metal, Invisalign uses a series of clear teeth aligners to gently move crooked teeth into their proper positions. The aligners (sometimes called trays) fit snugly over teeth and are very comfortable to wear.
Your teen will need to wear the aligners for a minimum of 22 hours each day during treatment. They can remove them for eating, brushing, or for a special occasion, then simply slip them back on afterward.
They will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, then move to the next set in the series. When they reach the end of the series, they’ll have their straight, new smile. For your convenience, they’ll receive several sets of aligners at each appointment. Many of our patients complete their Invisalign treatment in as few as 12 months!
Plus, the clear design of the aligners makes them nearly invisible. Others may not even notice your teen is wearing them. And they won’t have to worry about being called nicknames like “train tracks” or “metal mouth.”
Fastbraces® Cuts Orthodontic Care to a Fraction of the Time
While Invisalign is limited to use by teens and adults, Fastbraces® can be used by younger children as well. This orthodontic method takes metal braces and adds a unique twist to it. Fastbraces® uses triangular brackets and a special heat-sensitive wire to move both the roots and crowns of the teeth at the same time.
Traditional metal braces move the crowns during the first year and the roots during the second year, so treatment usually takes at least two years. With Fastbraces®, your child could finish their orthodontics in only 120 days!
Plus, the Fastbraces® method is more comfortable than standard braces. Our patients report much less tooth sensitivity with this technique.
And since Fastbraces® treatment takes a shorter time, there are fewer office visits and the overall cost is less expensive. It’s a win-win-win situation all around! Our team will be happy to evaluate your child to see if they are a good candidate for Fastbraces®. If they are, they could complete their treatment this fall.
